Having a dirty AC can certainly have a negative impact on your health over time. Dirty filters and ducts can result in a build-up of allergens and bacteria in the air, which can exacerbate existing health issues or even contribute to the spread of some illness. Keeping your filters clean means less likelihood of you and your family or employees being subject to the nasties that can harbor there.
